ABOUT Sheila
Sheila grew up in Toronto, Ontario. During the extended Plymouth Brethren services of her childhood, her mom used to quietly slide pencil and paper to her or any kid sitting nearby as cure for the fidgets. Her dad used to tell stories to his grandchildren and make up games that frequently involved battles. She formed play groups with other preschooler moms, taught parent education, and went to teachers’ college when her youngest was three years into elementary school.
A few years prior to retirement from the classroom, she began to take play therapy courses. It was her newly minted understanding of Sandplay that she brought into her Special Education resource role.
Now she has retired from private therapy practice and active membership with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She lives with her husband in the country and shares a dog named Ralph with a grandchild. She offers coaching and advice for parents, teachers and kids.
She has made contributions to The Routledge International Handbook of Sandplay Therapy
(2017) and to Applications of a Psychospiritual Model in the Helping Professions (Routledge, 2021).
